Tab Audio Capturer Privacy Policy

Purpose

Tab Audio Capturer is provided by _JIn.E&A___. It has one purpose: to record audio from one Microsoft Edge tab explicitly selected and authorized by the user, and then save the recording locally as a WebM file.

Information accessed and processed

The extension accesses and processes only the information needed for its visible recording purpose:

• Before a tab is authorized, and again after a target is released, the extension transiently reads the current active tab's tab identifier, window identifier, title, URL, page origin, and whether the page is capturable. This metadata is used only to support the candidate-target preview shown while the Microsoft Edge sidebar is open, so the user can decide whether to authorize that tab. Previewing a tab does not authorize capture, access its audio, or start recording.
• After the user authorizes a tab, the selected tab's tab identifier, window identifier, title, URL, and page origin are used transiently to show the selected target, reject restricted Microsoft Edge pages, keep the same tab's displayed title current, and prevent capture from drifting to another tab or origin.
• After the user invokes the extension to authorize and prepare a selected tab, the extension begins accessing and processing that tab's live audio stream locally. WebM recording and audio buffering begin only after the user presses the recording control or invokes the recording shortcut.
• The generated WebM recording and short-lived save-coordination metadata, such as a save-attempt identifier and Microsoft Edge download identifier.

Depending on the tab selected by the user, its audio or metadata may contain personal or sensitive content. The extension does not inspect, classify, analyze, or transmit that content.

Local processing, storage, and retention

• Tab titles, URLs, origins, audio, recordings, and save metadata are not sent to the publisher or to any third party.
• The extension has no account system, analytics, telemetry, advertising SDK, developer-operated server, or cloud-storage connection.
• Candidate-preview and selected-target tab titles, URLs, origins, identifiers, and capturability status are not written to persistent storage, are not uploaded, and are not used to create a browsing-history profile.
• Audio is processed in extension memory. The generated recording remains in memory while the Microsoft Edge Save As operation is pending.
• If saving is canceled or fails, the recording remains in extension memory during the current extension session so the user can retry saving it or explicitly discard it.
• Short-lived save-coordination metadata is stored in the Chromium Extensions API named chrome.storage.session and is removed after the download result is acknowledged. Audio bytes are never stored there.
• After a successful save, the resulting WebM file is controlled by the user through the local file system and Microsoft Edge downloads.
• Reloading or uninstalling the extension clears extension-session memory and session storage. The extension cannot delete a WebM file that the user has already saved outside the extension.

Sharing and prohibited uses

The extension does not sell, share, license, transfer, or disclose user data to the publisher or any third party. It does not use user data for advertising, profiling, eligibility decisions, creditworthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to the visible tab-recording feature.

The publisher and other people cannot read the user's tab information or recordings because that information does not leave the user's device. Information received from Microsoft Edge extension APIs is used only to provide and maintain the disclosed single purpose.

User controls and access

The user controls when a tab is selected, when recording starts and stops, and whether a recording is saved or discarded. The user can:

• stop an active recording;
• release the selected tab;
• retry or discard a recording whose save did not complete;
• choose the local destination through Microsoft Edge Save As;
• open or delete a saved WebM file using the local operating system; or
• uninstall the extension.

InPrivate browsing

The extension cannot be enabled in Microsoft Edge InPrivate browsing.

Permissions

• activeTab: temporarily authorizes the current tab only after the user invokes the toolbar action or keyboard shortcut.
• tabs: reads transient metadata for the current active tab's unauthorized candidate preview and for the selected target's restricted-page checks, same-tab title updates, and capture-race prevention. The candidate preview does not authorize capture or start recording.
• tabCapture: obtains audio from the explicitly user-authorized target tab. The extension does not capture video.
• downloads: opens Microsoft Edge Save As for the generated WebM and observes whether saving completes, is canceled, is interrupted, or is removed.
• sidePanel: provides the target preview, recording controls, status, save recovery, and visible live spectrum in the Microsoft Edge sidebar.
• offscreen: keeps the media stream, recorder, and in-memory recording alive independently of sidebar visibility and extension service-worker suspension.
• storage: stores only short-lived save and download coordination metadata in session storage.

Lawful and authorized use

Users are responsible for recording only content they own or are legally authorized to record. The extension is not intended to bypass access controls, digital rights management, subscriptions, copyright restrictions, or applicable consent and recording laws.

Policy changes

Material changes to data handling will be disclosed in the extension interface, the Microsoft Edge Add-ons listing, and this policy before the changed behavior is introduced.
